Transferring back to WordPress.com from self-hosted blog
-
Hi,
I recently transferred my WordPress.com blog to a self-hosted WordPress installation at http://chrisriedy.me. I’ve decided that was a bad idea. The host has been a bit unreliable and I just like how easy and reliable everything is at WordPress.com. So now I want to move back. I’ve imported my posts and I’m gradually getting everything to look right at http://chrisriedy.wordpress.com. I’ll then map the domain once everything looks right. But I’ve got a couple of questions about the process of transferring back to WordPress.com.1. When I went to the self-hosted site, I arranged to have my email subscribers and WordPress.com followers transferred via Jetpack. Is it possible to transfer them back to WordPress.com when I map my domain back?
2. I’m using the Top Posts and Pages widget on my site but it’s not working properly on http://chrisriedy.wordpress.com. I’ve got it set to show posts with thumbnails but the thumbnails aren’t coming through, even though I have featured images set on my posts. Could this be related to the fact that I still have http://chrisriedy.wordpress.com set as Private while I get it looking right? Or do I have to do something to regenerate the thumbnails? Or something else?
Thanks, Chris

Hi Chris,

Yes, it is possible to transfer them back and once you are ready, please reply to confirm and I can set that up for you.

So for this, we are pulling the top posts/pages from your Site Stats in your Dashboard. Currently your top post/page is your Home page, which does not have a Featured image. Set that there and it should show up!
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

Hi,
Thanks very much for the response.I’ll just need a few days to check through some of the posts before I go ahead with the transfer. I’ll write again once I’m ready to go and we can transfer my subscribers and followers.
Re: the Top Posts/Pages widget, I do actually have a featured image set on my Home page. I’ve just gone in and checked. But the widget is showing a blue question mark instead of the featured image. Any other ideas on what the problem might be?
Cheers, Chris

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. It may be an issue with it being private, but I’ll have my team take a closer look. I’ll give you an update as soon as possible!
Thanks for your patience!

Hi there,
I’m now ready to make the jump back to WordPress.com. Could you please go ahead and transfer my email subscribers and followers back to my WordPress.com site?
Does the order we do things in matter? I need to make chrisriedy.wordpress.com public and change the domain to chrisriedy.me. Does it matter if I do that before or after the followers / subscribers are transferred?
Cheers, Chris

Hi Chris,
No the order does not matter! I have transferred your subscribers as requested! Whenever you need to make the blog public and change the domain you can!
