Transferring blog address from another account

I accidentally started creating a personal website from the WordPress account of an organization I am a part of. I quickly realized my mistake, and logged into my personal account to try to restart the process. I’ve exported my progress from my organization’s account, and re-imported it to my personal account. The information on transferring sites implies that this process will allow me to re-register the original domain name to my personal account, but I haven’t been able to do so. I’m wary of deleting the site from my organization’s account until I’m sure I’ll be able to re-use the domain name on my personal account. Any advice?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there. DON’T DELETE THE SITE. If you do that it’s gone forever and no one will ever be able to register it again, including you.

There’s no way for you to re-register a domain already registered to another account. The import/export tools apply to content only, not the address.

But you can transfer the entire blog, content, address, followers, everything, from one account to another. To do that, go to the My Blogs page on the WP-Admin dashboard of the account that currently owns the blog, and click on the Transfer Blog link.
