transferring blog? how is it done?
-
i’m faced with a little bit of a problem. i’ve been blogging for almost a year on http://thedailycolumns.wordpress.com . when i started blogging i had also registered http://aniche.wordpress.com I realize now that I should have blogged on the latter address from the very beginning since it’s easier for people to identify my name with it. anyway is there way i can change my address to http://aniche.wordpress.com while maintaining all the posts on their original date from the other blog. any chance? any alternate solution?
can http://aniche.wordpress.com be redirected to my first blog? -
No, not unless staff want to do the redirect and you purchase the domain upgrade. Talk to them first.
You can transfer the posts from thedailycolumns to aniche.
-
could you break it down to me?
what do i have to do? are u saying there’s a way my blog will look the same except for the site address?
do i have to chalk out money to get that done? -
You can export the contents of thedailycolumns and import to aniche and everything will be preserved. You can do that for free.
-
what will happen to http://thedailycolumns.wordpress.com i still have that as well right? in case i want to leave a note announcing the site change.

Dashboard > Manage > Export, it won’t delete anything just take a copy.
Go to your new one Dashboard > Manage > Import.
Go and make a post on your old blog that you’ve moved and your done.

are there any downsides to doing it? it’s routine stuff right? alright i’m going to give it a shot. thanks everyone.

Nothing will be deleted from the old blog, not even widgets. But widgets will not be imported into the new blog. Only blog post contents and comments.

alright i’ve reached a bump in the road. i was importing the xls file and everything looked to going fine until the step 2 of importing process came where i had to assign author. i selected my id and pressed submit but after that nothing loaded. i waited for like 20 mins still nothing happened at the end of which 503 error was shown.what’s wrong? does it normally take that long a time? the xls file was just about 2 MB.

Search some of the older threads on imports to check. With a file that small there shouldn’t be a problem.

nothing’s happening i’m still getting timed out :( it drags like hell after selecting the author bit. and then 30 mins of waiting and i get timed out.
