Transferring blogs
-
My url was originally hosted by Wealthy Affiliate, I decided there was no reason for me to continue my membership with them when I knew everything I needed to and it would be cheaper for me to host my site directly on WordPress (instead on through WA who they themselves used WordPress). As soon as I quit my membership my website went down, understandably. It took a little while for me to get the url switched over to WordPress, but I was expecting all my content to transfer as well.
I already had a good handful of people following my website, even have a facebook page made for it with my old posts on it (that now are not working links). I had several posts already that took a lot of time to make and other amounts of hard work put into the site, but after switching it, I went to look at the website, eager to get started again, and nothing is there. There are no posts, no themes, no customer header bar that I made, nothing. Am I seriously going to have to start completely over?(also it wont let me choose my customer url from the dropdown which is groominghorses.org)
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
As soon as I quit my membership my website went down, understandably. It took a little while for me to get the url switched over to WordPress, but I was expecting all my content to transfer as well.
I understand the confusion. URLs and websites are not the same thing. Domains are just names for websites. The actual content of your site is not directly related to your domain.
A metaphor:
Let’s say you have a sign labeled GROOMING HORSES in front of a house. You can move the sign in front of a brand new house…but all the furniture is still in the old house. You also need to move the furniture out of the old house, and into the new one.
If you want to transfer your content to WordPress.com, you would need to export it from your old site, and import it at WordPress.com. There’s not any connection between our servers and your old server, so there isn’t an automatic migration that takes place.
An export/import is supported with several blogging platforms. If you have a backup file of the old site, you can find out if it’s compatible by looking here:
(also it wont let me choose my customer url from the dropdown which is groominghorses.org)
I am not entirely certain what dropdown you mean. I see that you’ve mapped your WordPress.com site to your custom domain. Configuration information about it can be accessed here:

That makes a lot on sense the way you put it. However I had no access to my site after I stopped my previous membership I couldn’t access even the editing menus and so could not get to my previous posts. Oh well, will just have to start over. Not much harm done, just a couple night’s work, not months or anything. Will just have to start from scratch.

I wish I had a magic wand :) Sorry you have to go through that. The good news is that you’ll always have access to the content on your WordPress.com site. For the future…
Thanks again, and welcome!
