transferring content from website to WordPress Business

  I need to move the content from my HTML site onto WordPress. HOw do I go about it?!

  Hi @rhugos,

  Do you know what platform are you using at the moment? Is it something like Blogger, Squarespace, Winx etc or is it a bespoke website?
  That’s important to know to get the right file to import into your WordPress.

  If you don’t know it, just link here your website so I can check that for you :)

  Hi Stefania,

  Thanks so much for your reply! I asked my IT contact your question (he is based in Romania) and he said:

  “The content is in XML files. The server-side functionality is written in PHP. The interface is done using HTML, CSS and JS. It’s a custom-made site or a ‘bespoke’ site. It was built in Sri Lanka by junior developers.”

  I hope that helps as I have very little experience with programming or web development.

  The website is currently here;

  And I know that the servers we are using don’t have control panels. You have to access the material via FTP.

  Hi Rebecca,

  Thanks for putting those information up here, it’s definitely helpful!

  The Import info on the WordPress support doc. says:

  If we do not have an importing tool for your particular platform, you will need to try and convert it into one of the accepted formats so that you can use the proper importer.

  In you case, since your website is a bespoke one, you need to convert all your files into the format of one of the importers listed here.

  What I’d suggest you now is to double check with your IT person if it’s possible to convert your xml files into something compatible with one of those appearing on the link above (ie Blogger).

  Let me know what your IT person says – if it’s possible to make this conversion – then we can evaluate from that.
  I’m sorry if it’s taking a little bit of time but it’s better safe than sorry :)

  Thanks again for spending the time to get back to me. I think you’re right, we need to find out if we can do it now before it’s too late.

  I will ask and see what IT person says.
