Transferring current WordPress.org blog to WordPress.com Helpful advice needed
-
In an earlier thread, I asked for some straight talk about my blog, Inspiration Point. He’s quite right about this not being the right place for the initial conversation.
I talked with some knowledgable friends and I got what I needed. Now, it is time for the technical part and this forum is certainly the right place. :)
As I indicated, I would love to move my current blog to WordPress.com. I still have a valid WordPress.com account and it’s insppoint.wordpress.com.
I read the support page and it says I can move the contents; however it says nothing about my sidebar plugins and Google Analytic. Plus, there’s no mention of MailChimp or other such plugins. Is there anything I should be aware of?
Plus, I am using a child theme to fine tune the old TwentyEleven theme. Any ideas or solution? I’d like to get something similar.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Can I use Google Analytics?
No, Google Analytics cannot be used on WordPress.com blogs at this time. http://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/#additional-infoSee also 8 years worth of identical threads with identical answers here https://en.forums.wordpress.com/tags/google-analytics

We cannot use the Mailchimp plugin on any WordPress.COM blog but there is a workaround. For a WordPress.COM blog you can create a sign up page on MailChimp directly and simply link to it. Here’s a link to their instructions http://kb.mailchimp.com/article/how-to-add-a-mailchimp-signup-form-to-your-wordpress-blog
Plus, I am using a child theme to fine tune the old TwentyEleven theme. Any ideas or solution? I’d like to get something similar. There is no FTP access to WordPress.COM blogs and we bloggers cannot install any plugins or third party themes.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/adding-new-themes/There is no other upgrade you can purchase here that changes that reality. We cannot:
upload any third party themes,
create child themes,
create our own themes,
edit templates,
create own own layouts,
or use stylesheets from other themes. Please read http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Hi Time,
Thank you for taking the time in replying to my question. I do appreciate it.
In regards to MailChim, I’ll look into that workaround. That’s the important one, for me.
Google Analytic: I can live without this specific item; however, I’d love an alternative way of tracking my site traffic, though. Any suggestions? I can easily plop some code in a text widget.
The Twenty Eleven child theme: I am sorry that I wasn’t very clear. I was looking for a theme that’s similar to my existing theme. I had to bump up the content font size to make it readable. <-Important. The grayish blue box simply makes the sidebar widget more visible.
Is there an alternate theme that I can use?

I have tried all of the free third party stats trackers that I have blogged on. The best one IMO is sitemeter. http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2009/10/02/visitor-tracking-on-wordpress-com-blogs/
Twenty Eleven came from here > https://wordpress.com/themes/twentyeleven/

It’s nice to see that sitemeter is still around. I loved it. :)
I did some digging at the twentyeleven link. I have a custom domain name. Am I going to be able to use it on the free account? Do I have to go for the premium account?

Important Notes Before Upgrading http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/#important-notes-before-upgrading
In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from, and the domain name you desire must be available for purchase, or you must already own the domain URL.
You must be logged in as Admin http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#administrator under the exact same username account that registered the blog to access the blog’s dashboard at > Store > My Upgrades to purchase upgrades for the blog.
See here if you do not own a domain http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/
See here for mapping an existing domain that you already own http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
After you do the primary blog set up it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.
See here too http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/add-email/

If I understand correctly, I’d just pay the normal domain name renewal fee (yearly) and it doesn’t require a premium account. Correct? I will follow the above instructions, soon enough. :)
-
As for the theme, I have no problem with paying for a new theme. That should be available with the free account.
-
All your need is a domain mapping upgrade.
The theme is free.
You purchased the domain from Fast Domains.
The site its on now is hosted by Blue Host so you need to follow these instructions. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/WordPress.com does not accept domain transfers but mapping an existing domain is possible.
Domain mapping of an existing domain URL that you already own and purchased elsewhere is not done free of charge. You will have to renew the domain name purchase where you made it and the domain mapping purchase here every year.
Mapping an existing domain costs $13. annually. In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from and it does not matter what that underlying .wordpress.com URL is. It does not have to match the domain URL. If you have registered a .wordpress.com blog you log in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the blog and purchase a domain name by purchasing an annually renewable domain mapping upgrade for the blog.
If you own that domain then see here for mapping an existing domain that you already own http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades is where you do the primary blog set up knowing it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.
