Transferring domain

  I have a ‘self-hosted wordpress dot org’ site. The domain was originally registered through iPage. The site is currently hosted via Host Gator. But I would like to move ALL of that to wordpress dot com and make my life simple. I still have another couple years on host gator and another 5 years for my domain on iPage. If I transfer, am I going to lose all that and start anew? Or are you guys competitive enough to ‘buy out’ my previous contracts? Or does my contract transfer? Or will the other hosts/providers give me a prorated refund? Thank you

  For HostGator, I suspect the answer is “yes”. But you will need to talk to their support team to be sure. For the domain registration, the answer SHOULD be “no”. Usually for domains, you don’t lose the years you have paid for if you transfer registration. That said, you would want to talk to your registrar’s support team to be sure they don’t have any weird policies.
