Transferring domain
-
Hello, I have a few questions.
I am planning to move my WordPress.com blog to WordPress.org soon and use another server. For this, I understand I need a Transfer code. I have found the page https://wordpress.com/my-domains/, however, I need to tick an option that says:
“Disable Private Registration. I understand that my contact details will be publicly available during the transfer period.”
As I am not doing the move to the other server today – but would like to obtain the code for when I do – I am concerned that my contact details would be publicly available until then.
Here are my silly non tech-person questions:
What does it mean, really, “contact details publicly available”?
How long does it take to get the Transfer code once you ask for it?
Will my current Worpress.com website be immediately disconnected when I receive the code?Thank you for answering!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Marie,
You are required to have accurate contact information for your domain name. In most cases, it is protected via a privacy proxy. This helps prevent most spam from reaching you.
During a transfer, you’ll need the email addresses listed as contact information for your domain to actually reach you. It’s times like these that you’ll require your contact details to be publicly available.
Once you request for the Transfer Code, you should get it almost immediately.
Here’s a support article explaining the transfer process:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/transfer-domain-registration/Your WordPress.com site should still be active throughout the domain transfer process. You’ll have to change your nameservers to your WordPress.org host in order to point your domain away from WordPress.com.
