Transferring Domain

  Just trying to transfer my domain from Big Commerce to WordPress. When I click map domain it immediately asks me for my credit card and to pay 129$ when it says on the previous page where you type in to map your domain that you are only going to pay 17$/year?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  WordPress.com does not accept domain transfers but mapping an existing domain is possible. http://support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/ The domain or mapping of any existing domain URL is included in the pricing for a personal upgrade, a premium and a business upgrade. The WordPress.COM upgrade for mapping a domain must be renewed annually.

  So if I pay the 129$/year it will map the domain which means my domain name from BigCommerce will be transferred to my wordpress?

  If you pay the 129$/year, it will give you the option to map a domain you already own to your WordPress.com site. However, the domain registration itself (the ownership of the domain) will still need to be maintained and renewed through the registrar where you originally purchased it.

  Mapping a domain and transferring a domain can be separate actions. In your case, because you originally purchased the domain somewhere else, you will need to map the domain at WordPress.com but register it somewhere else. We would like to offer the option to do incoming domain transfers, but that is not available just yet!

  In your case, you should either keep the domain only at Big Commerce (if they give you that option) or you can transfer it to another registrar such as Namecheap (or another registrar you choose). Then once you have updated the name servers to NS1.WORDPRESS.COM, NS2.WORDPRESS.COM, and NS3.WORDPRESS.COM you will be able to map your domain at WordPress.com if you have any of the plans on your account.
