transferring domain

  I was thinking to build the website first and then transfer the domain when it is done. If I cannot do a good job building then I will just hire someone and have them transfer the domain. Can I do it this way?

  Absolutely, this can be done. You would start by creating a free site, then map or transfer the existing domain to WordPress.com at a later stage.

  Custom domains are a feature of paid plans. The domain credit doesn’t have to be used straight away, you can continue using a free address containing “.wordpress.com” until you are ready to switch domains.

  @shini1509 — the instructions you linked to cover transferring a domain away from WordPress.com, rather than to WordPress.com :)
