transferring domain

  First time site builder here! I have a website elsewhere and would like to transfer my domain name to wordpress, but if I fill in the information and work on creating a website, I just want to make sure that nothing actually happens until I click a magic button at the end of the process? My current website is in the middle of peak usage right now, so don’t want to mess anything up until everything is ready.
