Transferring domain, cancelling subscription
-
Hello,
I’m working with a client to transfer her domain under our hosting with GoDaddy. We’ve done the proper transfer, but her site is still directing through WordPress. When we called GoDaddy, they said she would need to cancel her subscription for everything to fall into place.
Is she okay to cancel her account? Or delete her site? I guess I’m just confused because there seems to be a lot of different terminology for the same processes, and I want to make sure we aren’t messing her site up.
All help is appreciated! Thanks in advance.
Jessica

Hello,
If you’re moving the content too, see this guide: https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-to-a-self-hosted-wordpress-site/6/If you’re just wanting to point ijetheworldtraveler.com to new content on GoDaddy, then update the nameservers. Currently they are NS1.WORDPRESS.COM and NS2.WORDPRESS.COM which is why the domain is still directing through WordPress.com. Since the domain is registered through GoDaddy, you or your client needs to update the nameservers there: https://support.godaddy.com/help/article/664/setting-nameservers-for-your-domain-names
Once the transfer is done, you can make the WordPress.com site private (so you keep the content accessible in case you need it later): https://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/
… or you can delete the site by going to Tools > Delete Site.
