Transferring Domain from Wix to WordPress

  • Unknown's avatar

Good Morning! I recently made the change from Wix to WordPress and have been trying to have the domain I purchased through Wix transferred to my WordPress site. I asked that the name servers be changed, however Wix said that it is not possible to change the name servers. They sent me a domain transfer code via e-mail, but I have absolutely no idea where to place the code in order for the transfer to work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

The guide below explains how to transfer the domain name to another registrar, including how to access the authorization (EPP) code:

Transfer a Domain to Another Registrar

Alternatively, you can point the domain you registered at WordPress.com to another server (hosting service), with these steps:

    Change a Domain’s Name Servers

You’ll need to obtain the name server values from your current host. You should be able to find them on their support documentation, or contact them and ask for the information. (Name servers may be referred as “nameservers” or “NS records” instead.)

I wanted to transfer my domain name registered with 1and1.com to WordPress, but WP told me they were not currently accepting transfers, so I had to set up Domain Mapping. This was only last week. Is this no longer the case?

@timethief – I understand, but isn’t it misleading/incorrect to give out info on how to transfer a domain from another host to WP, if that is not allowed?

  • Hi there,

    @demaiochristina
It is not possible to transfer a domin to WordPress.com at this stage, as our registrar doesn’t accept incoming domain transfers. If Wix cannot change your name servers, you will first need to transfer your domain to a registrar that does. You will give the transfer code to that registrar so they can transfer your domain. Then you’ll need to ask the new registrar to change the name servers as in the link @timethief provided so the domain will work with your WordPress.com site.

    @seleneplatt
See above. It is still not possible to transfer a domain to WordPress.com. The link @timethief provided contains instructions for how to transfer domains registered with WordPress.com to start with, but the basic process is the same no matter who your registrar is.

    Hi everybody!
I have the same problem as @demaiochristina

I followed all the steps and now I have the transfer code via e-mail, but I have no idea where to place the code in order for the transfer to work.
My blog I need help with is http://www.leconomist.org

I tried @timethief reccomendation but when I enter to “My Domain” It doesn´t appear to me the “Transfer Domain” option, I can only “Edit NDS”.

I need help with that, please!
    Thank u everyone!

Did you read my reply to @demaiochristina above?

It is not possible to transfer a domain to WordPress.com, so that code you have is useless.

I see you already bought the domain mapping upgrade. That is the only way to use a domain you already own with WordPress.com

To complete the mapping process, you will need to set your domain’s name servers to point to WordPress.com. You will need to do that at your domain registrar. You can see here for complete instructions:

Hi @kokkieh, thanks for your reply.
As I told you, I can not change the domain’s name servers since Wix do not allow me to do that and they won’t change the NS for me.
    What can I do??
    Thanks,
    Sebastian

” Ask your domain provider to update your DNS settings

This step must be completed with the company you purchased your domain from.”

I wrote several times to Wix and they don’t update DNS settings. And I saw in the forum that other guys had the same problem transfering the domain from Wix to WordPress.

  • If your current registrar won’t allow you to change your name servers, you will need to transfer your domain to a registrar that does allow you to do that.

Mapping is the only option to connect a domain you already own, so if your registrar does not allow you to map your domain somewhere else the only option is to transfer to a different registrar.

    Sorry, i sent you wrong.
How can I transfer the domain from Wix to your hosting in WordPress? Where can I write the code that sent me Wix team to transfer the domain?
    Thanks

  • How can I transfer the domain from Wix to your hosting in WordPress? Where can I write the code that sent me Wix team to transfer the domain?

You can’t. It is not possible to transfer a domain to WordPress.com. There is nowhere here where you can enter that code.

If you transfer your domain to another registrar you can map it here, but you can’t transfer it here.
