Transferring domain from WordPress.com to WordPress.org
-
I want to migrate my domain from WordPress.com to Bluehost (and use WordPress.org) because I realized I want more control over how my site displays. This is the current situation with my blog:
– I only have one post on it so far
– I am past the 48 hr refund deadline, but my domain has not yet been active for 60 daysFrom what I’ve read on the support pages, it seems like these are the steps I would have to take:
1. register an account with bluehost (using my domain address), install wordpress.org
2. change the nameservers to point the domain outside of wordpress.com
3. export my files from wordpress.com and import them into wordpress.org
4. wait out the rest of the 60 day period, then transfer the domain registration from wordpress.com to bluehost
5. keep using wordpress.orgDid I get anything wrong? Am I missing anything? Has anyone gone through a similar process? Is there any way to get even a partial refund from wordpress.com in this situation?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi eltiffster,
Yes, that sounds about right!
WordPress.com does allow you to manage the DNS for your domain in the Custom DNS menu. This would allow you to add an A entry to your Bluehost server, so that you would be able to use your domain with it right away. (You are also able to add other types of entries like CNAME and MX, for aliasing and mail respectively.)
Here’s a support article for the Custom DNS feature, in case you need some help with it:
