Transferring domain name to WordPress

I’m setting up a worpress site for a junior soccer club. The club already owns a domain name (in the name of a former site administrator). Do we need him to transfer the domain name ownership? And can we transfer the registration of domain name to WordPress so that the cost of domain is covered (because domains are included in the premium plan)?

You don’t need to transfer the domain to WordPress, you can easily map a Domain from anywhere to WordPress, as long as you are subscribed to any paid plans it can be done easily, to know more about it here is more information

WordPress PlansIn the link above you would be able to see the Custom Domain is there in all the paid plans , which enables you book a new domain as well as if its with another registrar you can easily map .

Thank you for the response, I understand that the domain mapping is possible. However, we currently pay for the domain name (separately of course, as we’re new to WordPress) and the premium account offers a free custom domain name. What I’m trying to find out is if we can transfer the domain name to WP so that it is covered by the plan fee.

Ok, we understand it but unfortunately we cant transfer domains to WordPress, here is a quote from the page of DomainsWe do not currently support incoming domain transfers, but you can still get any domain to work with your WordPress.com blog using the Domain Mapping.Here is the Support Page to Confirm it
