transferring domain registrar
-
My domain is parked at ipage, that will expire next month. I want to go for the ‘free domain’ offer along with hosting it on wordpress. I am not referring to ‘pointing to’ or cname, etc as the domain itself has to be moved shortly.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi priyastrombss,
According to this recent support thread, WordPress.com do not currently accept domain transfers:

It would seem that mapping your current domain would be your best option, I would advise against allowing your domain to expire!

so i cannot avail the benefit of “free domains”? I will have to pay a high price to renew with the existing vendor?
-
Yes, although domain mapping is included in a paid plan as an option to creating a new domain on WordPress.com.
Perhaps you could transfer your current domain to a cheaper vendor?

As @cobalteye mentioned, WordPressdotcom does not currently accept incoming domain transfers. If you need to transfer your active domain, do so to an accredited registrar. Don’t let your domain expire as the cost of recovery will be higher.
Once you have your domain taken care of, you can use any of the existing Plans to connect your domain and your WordPressdotcom website by domain mapping.
