Transferring domain to free wordpress site
-
How can I transfer my domain bought with godaddy to WordPress? I am aware I have to wait 60 days to do this. After the 60 days is finished is there a charge to transfer the domain to WordPress/will I have to upgrade my account or can the domain be transferred whilst still using the free version of WordPress?
Thank you

Hello Yasmin!
To use the domain you purchased from GoDaddy you have to navigate in your site’s Dashboard and then from the menu choose Upgrades -> Domains. On that page there is an Add Domain button at the top of the page. Press it and select “Use a domain I own”. After that you should input your domain name and then you will be presented with two choices:
– You can either choose to have your domain transfer to WordPress, so that you can manage it along with your website from the same interface,
– or continue managing your domain through GoDaddy.
Both of these options require a paid WordPress plan.

Hi there,
To connect your domain to your WordPress.com site while it’s still registered at GoDaddy, you can follow these steps:
https://wordpress.com/en/support/domains/connect-existing-domain/
Once the initial 60-day transfer lock is lifted on GoDaddy’s end, you can then follow these steps to transfer the registration to us:
https://wordpress.com/en/support/move-domain/incoming-domain-transfer/
As mentioned above, you will need a paid plan to do this. As part of the plan, connecting your domain will be free, and as long as you don’t register a different domain in the meantime, the transfer will also be free once you’re able to do that. (The transfer will also renew your domain for another year.)
Let us know if you have any questions about this.
