Transferring domain to GoDaddy
-
I’m so website illiterate it’s hurting me financially, so please forgive me if I get some terminology/general web dev things wrong. I wanted to host my wordpress site through godaddy, and transfer a domain name there as well. I already purchased a domain from WP but realized after that I wanted it through GoDaddy. For some reason, I unsubscribed from WP and cancelled my domain. I didn’t know transferring it was an option, I thought I would have to get rid of it then purchase again through GD.
Now it seems that domain is lost forever. GD says it is no longer available. A friend did a search for the owner, and it comes back to me. I own it, but have no access to it anymore. What should I do?

Hi there, I understand your pain. Someone has tagged this for Staff assistance. Please read this information on cancelling a domain: https://en.support.wordpress.com/cancel-domain/ and this earlier Staff reply may also help explain the process. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/get-my-domain-name-transferred?replies=2#post-2731794
If Staff are able to recover the canceled domain from their registrar they will let you know. What is the domain you wish to recover? (Yes, I know it seems obvious, but please indulge me. :) Thanks

Hi there,
Cancelled domains go through a similar process as expired domains. First there is a grace period of a few days during which we’re able to recover the domain at no cost to you. But in this case I see you cancelled the domain on 3 August already and the grace period has long since passed.
Your domain is now in what is called Redemption. That’s a phase during which the registrar is trying to sell the domain at private auction, and only if that doesn’t happen will they release the domain so anyone can buy it again. The total process takes around 90 days, so it’s unlikely that your domain will be available again, if at all, before the end of October.
In most cases we can still get a domain back from the current phase, but our registrar charges an $80 fee for this. If you agree to this fee (fully refundable if the recovery fails), let me know and I can get the process started to recover your domain.
