Transferring Domain TO WordPress FROM Squarespace

  I currently have a website and two domains on Squarespace, but I’d like to move them over to WordPress. I can find in Support how to transfer FROM WordPress, but I need help transferring TO WordPress. Help?

  Thank you for trying staff-dpwordpress! However that link is for moving content over, not domain names.

  And please help me understand something: You need JUST the domains migrated and simply start a new site while using them or you actually want to migrate the content of the websites, too while still using the same domain names but having them hosted on WordPress and not on Squarespace?

  Hi there folks, not an employee of Automattic, but in this case the support docs are your friend. :)

  @brightenlifewithmisti – If you refer to moving your domain here, WordPressdotcom does not currently accept incoming domain transfers. If you cannot keep your domain at Squarespace and point your domain name servers here, then you will need to transfer your domain to another accredited registrar before you can map your domain. Here’s more information:

  Mapping a domain on WordPressdotcom is a paid upgrade. You can learn more about that here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/

  Just to clarify, WordPress comes in 2 flavors: the fully hosted WordPressdotcom (where we are ) and the open source WP (org) project at https://wordpress.org This support guide explains some of the differences between them: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

  Hi brightenlifewithmisti,

  I see @justjennifer has given you some links to information about domain mapping. Domain mapping is a feature of all paid plans — Personal, Premium and Business. Each plan includes a domain credit which can be used to map an existing domain or register a new one.

  Our plans only include domain renewal for domains registered through WordPress.com. If you decide to map your domain, you will need to continue to renew it through Squarespace.
