transferring domain vs connecting domain

  If I transfer the domain, will I be paying for it to Go daddy or to word press? it is paid for for 2 years.

  I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

  It’s more what you prefer.

  Connecting allows you to keep the domain registered with your current domain registrar and direct it to your WordPress.com site: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/connect-existing-domain/

  A transfer would allow managing both your site and domain from the same place: https://wordpress.com/support/move-domain/incoming-domain-transfer/

  Please note that transferring your domain here would add another year to your domain registration.

  Therefore it depends on whether or not you want to manage your domain separately from your hosting or if you want to manage both in the same place. In the end, the result is the same.
