transferring domain vs. mapping
-
does transferring your domain cost anything? I paid for a year domain with privacy on publishing with go daddy. If I transfer will I retain the 5 years and privacy? Instead of transferring is there a subscription that includes mapping?

It’s more a personal preference type of thing, really.
Mapping allows you to keep the domain registered with your current domain registrar and direct it to your WordPress.com site: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
A transfer would allow to manage both your site and domain from the same place: https://en.support.wordpress.com/move-domain/incoming-domain-transfer/
So, basically, are you an “all of your eggs in one basket” type of person, or “not all of your eggs in one basket”? :)

I have a .uk domain with 123-reg. Seemingly this is not eligible for domain transfer so my only option is domain mapping. No problem with that, but I can’t clarify the cost. I know that I will have to continue paying 123reg for the domain, and I know that I will have to pay for an upgraded WordPress site, but it seems I will also have to pay for a ‘subscription’. I can’t find any reference to the cost of this. Can you help?

You’ll need a paid plan to map the domain here, any paid plan, there is no additional subscription charge from us beyond just that.

Many thanks, understood, and will do.
Can I use the same 123reg domain to map to two different WP sites?
One of them would the new one, the other would one which used to be paid-for but the domain lapsed, so reverted to WP ‘free’ and took the ‘followers’ with it. If I revive the latter with a new payment plan, would the followers need to sign up anew?

You can only map a domain to one site, but we can transfer the followers for you if you confirm the URLs of the sites you want to transfer them from/to.
