Transferring Domains

I’m in the process of re-branding an organizations website and I’m trying to determine the best course of action. We’re currently hosting our GoDaddy domain through Wix, and I’m interested in building a new website for the org on WordPress. I want to simplify our billing and communications process, so it seems to me that transferring our GoDaddy domain to WordPress is the move. Can anyone walk me through pitfalls I may run into, or important tips to remember? I’ve read the help section content available on both GoDaddy and WordPress, but I’d prefer someone with first-hand experience.

  • Hi @jariedk, sure thing. Here’s what I’d recommend, personally:

    – Set up the site / import what you can: https://transferto.wordpress.com/wix . Also, adding a paid plan at this point is not a bad idea, since you’ll get direct support as needed, plus paid plan features you might want. It’s refundable for 30 days: https://en.support.wordpress.com/refunds/

    Then you can either

    – Start the domain transfer process (which takes a few days typically) then point it to our servers when you’re ready do go live,

    Or

    – map first then transfer

Let us know if you have more questions!
