If I transfer my existing domain to WordPress, and I want to merge my existing content on my free WordPress site, with that site, what happens to the content on both sites?

Hi there, when you transfer your domain name to WordPress.com, it is mapped to your site here, so all of your content sort of magically appears under that domain name through a process called domain mapping.
You have two options. One is what you mention, transferring the registration of the domain name to WordPress.com and then getting an upgrade so that you can map it to your site here.

The second option would be to keep it registered where it is now and change the nameservers to point at WordPress.com and then get an upgrade so that you can map it to your site here. The domain name does not have to be transferred unless you would like to have the management of everything in one place.
