Transferring Expired Domain to another user? Beyond grace period.

I’ve setup a WordPress site for a Homeowner’s Association, which was paid by the treasurer at that time. A year or so passes and the HoA contacts me saying the site doesn’t work. It has been expired for 2 months, and the treasurer has left the board and moved away.
I’m in contact with the treasurer and tried walking her through the steps to transfer the domain to my account (still set as admin), but the transfer option is not appearing for her. I assume it is because the domain has been expired past the grace period, so it probably needs to be renewed before a transfer can take place? Only her account can renew the domain otherwise.

It looks like you may be referring to meadowstreamhoa.net (owned by another user of the site), is that correct?

Domains can only be renewed through the account they were purchased through, so it’s good to hear you are in contact with the owner.
meadowstreamhoa.net is currently in the redemption period and domains in this phase of expiration cannot be transferred to another WordPress.com account without being renewed first.
Please ask the treasurer to login to their account and reply in this thread so we can look at the next steps together — they will need to login using the email address their purchase receipts and renewal reminders were sent to.

Yes, that is the site. When I made the site for the Homeowner Association, I had them determine an “owner” for the site, with me set as admin access so I could develop it for them. When that member left and moved away, ownership was not transferred.
Since the payment was done from the HoA funds, I do not want the current site owner to have to pay to renew before transferring, since she no longer has access to the HoA. If it can be transferred and then renewed, it would be viable for the HoA to pay for it.
I’ve sent an email to the site owner to this thread with instructions on posting.

This is the past treasurer of meadowstream.hoa. What do I need to do to get the domain transferred without a renewal?

@pratt1947, it would need to be renewed first since it’s been expired for so long.
If you’d like, though, we can send an invoice for the renewal, which you could then forward to the other person so they could pay. And then you would go through the normal transfer process. Would that work for you?

We have received payment for the domain and have restored it from redemption. It will now be possible to transfer the domain to another account as explained here:

One last question, when the HoA paid the Invoice, they did not receive a payment receipt. Could that be sent to them?

If they go to their Billing History (https://wordpress.com/me/purchases/billing) they’ll see the receipt and they’ll be able to print it and email to themselves.
