Transferring followers from .com to .org

I have transferred my blog from wordpress.com to wordpress.org and lost my followers. The wordpress.org forum said that I could contact wordpress.com support and you would be able to transfer over my followers so that my followers can continue to get updates each time I post. My website is: http://www.hesitantlyhealthy.com. Thanks in advance! Jessica

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • I have migrated your subscribers and followers to your new site.

Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

Thanks! However, now I am unable to log into my dashboard and my website is not reachable. I am receiving this message:

The website cannot display the page
    Most likely causes:
    •The website is under maintenance.
•The website has a programming error.

Is this related to the transfer? I haven’t made any other changes on my end…

Hi, my blog is still not visible. Can someone please be in contact with a fix? This is two days offline now. Thanks!

Hi, ok was able to get Blue Host involved to help. There was a subscriber list plug-in that went rogue when my subscribers were transferred over. They are unsure why the issue occurred, but after deleting the plug-in, my website has stabilized. Thanks!

  • Hi Jessica,

Sorry about the delay. Most of us don’t work on weekends (the folks pulling the short straw being asked to cover some).

Nothing we did should have impacted your site this way; we make an internal change at WordPress.com (which powers the subscribers for both WordPress.com and WordPress.org+Jetpack sites) to indicate the subscribers are no longer associated with the old site and are now associated with the new site.

By chance could that plugin have been updated around the same time as we migrated your subscribers over?

If you don’t mind, what is the name of the plugin that went rogue? I’d like to test it in order to see if we can duplicate the issue.

Hope you’re having a great weekend. Thanks!

Hi Kraftbj! Thanks so much for handling me on the weekend shift :) Definitely understand the need for a weekend break! The plug in that caused my problems was WP Mail SMTP. Since I couldn’t access my dashboard, Blue Host inactivated all plugins, which allowed me to get back into my dashboard and once there I reactivated my plugins one by one….once I got to WP Mail SMTP it reported a “fatal error” message so I deleted it completely. You’re right that I think it’s probably just unfortunate timing between the plugin and the transfer, they possibly made an update but I’m not sure. All is well on my end now though, so thanks again for your response! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  • Thanks for the info. Glad Bluehost was able to help get you back on your feet.

    Cheers!
