Transferring followers to self hosted site

I would like to transfer my followers to my self-hosted site where i’m using wordpress.com? Is there a way to do this without having to purchase the guided transfer because I successfully completed the rest of the transfer manually.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yes. You need to install the Jetpack plugin and activate it. Then you need to post both of the URLs ie. the URL of the free hosted WordPress.com blog and the URL of the WordPress.org install. When you have done that Staff will be able to transfer your email subscribers for you.

Thank you very much. I don’t mind waiting but just out of curiosity, how will I know when the transfer was successful?

We Volunteers don’t know when Staff will get to this thread. They have a heavy workload. When they do the transfer of your email subscribers it will be done very quickly. Note: Those who follow your blog in the WordPress.com reader cannot be transferred.

ok.
Is it possible to notify those followers of my move. Say for example a post that gives them the new address or is that not allowed?

I have transferred your subscribers as requested.
You should definitely make one last post on the old blog to notify the non-email subscribers.
