Transferring from a site with a domain to a wordpress.com site only
-
Hello! I don’t want to pay for domain hosting and a domain name anymore for my wordpress.com site. I also don’t want to lose everything on my site. I would like my site to be on wordpress.com only. How do I do this? This is like a step backwards for many people I think, as I am not going from a wordpress.com site to domain hosting but the reverse. Are there instructions anywhere to help with this? Thank you sooo much! Lori

Hi there,
Can you please share your website URL so that we can assist you better?
Please go through the domain cancellation options mentioned in the below URL:
https://wordpress.com/support/domains/#cancel-a-domain-name
It can be difficult to get a domain back after you have cancelled. You should only cancel a domain if you are sure you no longer want it and are okay with the potential of someone else registering and using it.

Hi Lori,
You’ve never paid us for hosting, as that’s a service we provide for free on WordPress.com. Our paid plans only give you access to optional extra features, so by cancelling a plan, you only give up those features, and if you cancel your domain, your site will return to using its free example.wordpress.com address. So none of your content will be lost, you just won’t be able to access it using your custom domain any more.
That said, in some cases there are extra steps we need to take to properly downgrade a site back to the free plan, so please confirm the URL of the site you need help with.

Thank you for your time in helping answer this question. I appreciate it!

Spiritseed.net is currently hosted by Bluehost, so some of the information supplied above doesn’t actually apply to your situation. You will need to talk to the Bluehost support team to find out how to cancel your hosting plan with them. But before you do that, make sure you have successfully moved your site to another host before you cancel. Generally, once you cancel a hosting plan, you will be unable to access any of your data.
To move the content of your site to WordPress.com, you would need to follow these instructions here:

Thank you so much for your help. I really appreciate your comments. By your question, I guess you mean my wordpress URL. Apologies.
Here is a picture of a question I wrote 4 years ago to try to simplify my site information. Wait- I can’t attach a photo.
I guess basically, I log into two of my sites at wordpress.com/Wp-login. One of these sites I tried to delete, but couldn’t. I have a third site that is currently hosted at spiritseed.net, but I can’t figure out how to access the site on wordpress!
Ah! I’m so sorry this is so complicated. So I have been trying to answer your question above, but I am feeling stuck. Can you tell me, when you ask to “please confirm the URL”, do you mean: (1) “spiritseed.net” or (2) the associated URL at WordPress for spiritseed.net? I’m so sorry! Thank you!!!

spiritseed.netis a self-hosted WordPress.org site, hosted at Bluehost, so you’ll log in at http://spiritseed.net/wp-login.phpTo clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities: https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/
WordPress.org has complete documentation for self-hosted/installed versions of WordPress.org at https://wordpress.org/support/ and support at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/
As for the site you want to delete, what is the URL of that site?
-
Oh my. Thank you so much!! You guys are amazing!
The site I want to delete is:
spiritwaterwriting.wordpress.comHow can it be deleted?
Then I’ll try to import my wordpress.org site to wordpress.com so it’s less confusing for me.
Thank you!!!

Hi Lori,
Since you’re logged into the correct account already, you can delete that site by following these instructions:
https://wordpress.com/support/delete-site/
Just make sure to choose the correct site from My Sites>Switch site.
