Transferring from wordpress.com to bluehost

    Good morning,
I have followed the steps outlined in articles, which was to ‘Export all (or specific) text content (pages, posts, feedback) from your site.’ This zipped file arrived via email. I downloaded that, unzipped it, then attempted to import using bluehosts ‘WordPress run importer’ tool. As it failed numerous times, I decided to cut the original 15360kb file size (still well within the limit stipulated) into 23 pieces, making each bit more manageable. This worked for the first few files, but has subesequently stopped working. So, now I am stuck with half of my information updated onto bluehost, but the remaining half unable to update. I hope someone can help me with that to do now.
    Thanks.

Most articles you find on the internet are about self-hosted wordpress.org. The only way to move a site from wordpress.com to self-hosted, is described at https://move.wordpress.com/

It seems my problem is occurring because when I export my wordpress content from wordpress.com, it is exported in 2 xml files. Is that normal? I went through online chat with Bluehost and they have said it should be 1 xml file…

  • It will export in multiple files depending on the overall size of the content.
