Transferring from wordpress.com to a hosting company
-
I am trying to transfer my wordpress.com website to a hosting company which I created an account with. I am only able to export an xml file and it doesn’t have all of the data I need. Can you please lead in the correct direction so I can transfer all of my posts/pages/images/links etc. Thank you!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Here is the help page that explains the transfer from a WordPress.com to a self hosted WordPress site:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/Not sure what data you are missing in the XML (WXR) format. Note that during the import process you can download and import all the file attachments from the old site to the new site.

Only the contents transfer: text and media. The theme and metadata do not transfer.
As for pages, they have to be copy/pasted if I’m not mistaken, as they lie outside the blog structure.

I transferred over the xml file but they are now saying that I also need the files for ftp. I looked through wordpress and I believe we don’t have access to that as a wordpress.com user?
-
That’s correct. You’ve never had access to those kinds of files or the FTP protocol at wordpress.com. What you need is a theme, the software from WordPress.org, and then away you go.

They are stating that my images and links won’t transfer over then. Is there a way to fix that?

This is what the support documents say:
Note: This will ONLY export your posts, pages, comments, categories, and tags; uploads and images may need to be manually transferred to the new blog. The current version of the WordPress.org installation gives you the option to import uploaded files, but the blog you are importing from must be live and serving images properly in order for it to work. So, do not delete your blog until after media files have successfully been imported into the new blog.
