Transferring from wordpress.com to wordpress.org

Hello! I just finished working on my new site and since my old site was hosted with wordpress.com, my website developer had to do a fresh install of wordpress.org via my godaddy account. Do I need to still pay for the domain mapping for my http://gracebaekphoto.wordpress.com site or can I just let it expire and be removed from that site? I’m not too familiar with this and didn’t want this to affect my new wordpress.org site. Thank you! -Grace
