Transferring from WP.com to WP.com

    Dear All

    For a while I’ve happily used a WP blog which I called the The Rambling Association. However, the vast majority of posts are now about cycling which has led to some obvious confusion as the name is too close to the Ramblers Association. As a result, I’ve just set up a new blog for cycling specific stuff.

    My questions are; although I’ve been able to transfer lots of stuff over, can I transfer subscriptions (there is also one external link to one of my posts but I can let that go)? Also what is the best way to advertise the fact that I now have a main cycling blog on my existing blog. In fact, is it worth just deleting the existing blog?

    Sorry if this is a bit confusing (and amateur!) but any help gratefully received

    As subscriptions are specific to the URL you will have to set up blog subscriptions on the new blog. I cannot find anything in support documentation, hopefully, I didn’t miss anything, on transferring subscriptions so I assume that option doesn’t exist. Only Staff can confirm if I’m correct or not. > http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

    Long ago I deleted “timethief.wordpress.com” and have lived to regret it. If I had a Fairy Godmother I would ask/beg her to get it back. :(

    Once a wordpress.COM blog is deleted it’s gone forever and the URL cannot be recycled. As far as advertising goes what we normally do is post a single post on the old blog with the link to the new one. After a reasonable time period has passed then we change the visibility of the old blog to “private” to keep search engines spiders and visitors out and to avoid getting a duplicate content penalty.
