Transferring GoDaddy domain from Wix to WordPress
-
Hello!
I hope you’re doing well.
I have a domain with GoDaddy and I would like to switch it to WordPress with the WooCommerce plugin. I’m wondering if I need to use the transfer domain or map domain option?
Thank you in advance for your assistance!
Yours sincerely,
Kayla

Hi Kayla,
You can use either of those options. It is a total personal preference. Let me tell you about the difference.
If you would like to transfer the domain, that means you will be moving it from your current domain registrar to WordPress. You can find out how to do that here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/move-domain/incoming-domain-transfer/
If you’d like to keep your domain with your current registrar, mapping it will keep it where it is and allow you to use it on your WordPress site. For instructions on how to do so, see this document:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
It’s your choice! Either one works!

Hi there,
“switch it to WordPress” can mean different things.
If you specifically mean you want to move to us on WordPress.com, so that we are hosting your website rather than GoDaddy, note that to use WooCommerce you’ll have to be on our Business or eCommerce plan.

If you just want to use the WordPress software instead of GoDaddy’s own page builder software, you can do that without moving away from GoDaddy. In that case, just contact their support to find out how to switch to one of their WordPress hosting plans. They should also be able to advise you on migrating any existing content on your site to a WordPress installation.
You can get help with that version of WordPress here:
