Transferring Google Domains – On Us

“Transferring Google Domains for free? That’s a deal worth grabbing! Thanks for making domain transfers hassle-free, Google!”

  • Unknown's avatar

This is a great offer! I have moved my domains over. I followed the process. It all worked 99% fine. A few of the domains did not receive the free 1-year extension automatically. I notified support and they took care of it within a few hours. I would rather have WordPress handle my domains than a company like Google that keeps starting and shutting down projects whenever the wind blows in a different direction. The team at WordPress is committed to the open web, which includes domains. Since I have their support, they have my support.

  • Thanks for the kind feedback, @anzikbro!

And thanks to whomever modlooked this thread about the spam. Fixed :)

  • Hi @faiziahmi13

I don’t see any sites on your account when I look here: https://wordpress.com/sites/

In this case I would recommend you contact your domain registrars (both the old one and the new one) to see what the status of your domain is. It does not sound like we’re involved in this transfer since we do not show any sites or custom domains on your WordPress.com account.

    Thanks!

    Hello,

I transferred two of my domains from Google Domains to WordPress without any problems and fees in August but now when I try to move another domain (I couldn’t transfer this domain in August because it was a new domain(not 60 days old)) from Google Domains to WordPress, a fee showed up. I want to know why this fee shows up. Can you please assist?

    Thank you.

  • @arimigdis could you start a new thread and share the affected domain? Thanks in advance.

I don’t how everyone is having such success. I’ve been trying for weeks. Different domains, different Google accounts (myself and clients), and all I ever see is “This domain is unlocked but the authorization code seems incorrect.” It’s not a difficult thing to do so I don’t understand why it’s not working. I opened ticket #7076254 but missed the response email and now the ticket is closed. Please help!

And just like that I figured it out. After pasting the text in, I hit the backspace once, then reentered the last character and boom, it works. Perhaps the field isn’t stripping dead whitespace from the end, I don’t know, but at least now I know the trick.

Just successfully transferred 2 domains from google: one with google workspace starter, the other without. Transfers were quick and painless. Thanks for that!

However, upon inspection of the DNS records after the transfer, I have two questions

1.) the TXT record “google._domainkey.<mydomain>.com.” seems to be truncated. In the original entry at google, there were 2 strings enclosed in double quotes. In the wordpress DNS entry the second string is missing. Is this a problem?

    2) there are a whole lot of new TXT records for the domain with the google workspace starter than there were in the google DNS – over 30 new TXT records. These are all similar to “TXT <someidentifier> v=spf1 include:_spf.google.com ~all”. Is this correct behavior, or do I have to remove some of these entries?

Please let me know if more details are required.

    Thanks!

  • Hey @craigathomas, I know we generally try to copy records over, but if something seems wrong we’ll want to take a closer look.

Can you open a chat or start a separate thread, so that others in this one won’t get notifications from our back-and forth? Share the affected domains and a screenshot if you’d like. And if you start it in the forums, add “modlook” so that it’s flagged for staff. Thanks!

    Hello @supernovia,

I started a new thread and I added the domain that is affected as well as the domains that I already transferred.

    Thread: (3993860)

    Thank you in advance.

Global name server setting cannot wordpress domain manage?

  • Hi @webtasarimofisimcom we’re not familiar with Google’s domains interface directly so I’m not sure what I’m seeing in your screenshot. Can you tell us a bit more about what you are trying to set up, and how it differs when you try to manage your domains here?

    Thanks for the additional info!

I still understand what this means. I am using a free version of the WordPress site does that includes me ?

    Global Dns Setting

    ns1.domain.com ip
    ns2.domain.com ip

hello, IP combined ns was being created in the global names server exchange area from the tab in the google domain. However, due to the lack of global names server space in WordPress domain name management, we cannot create ns1.domain.com ns2 domain.com name servers. So how do we add a private name server to our own domain name?

  • Thanks for clarifying @webtasarimofisimcom there is not currently a management page where you can add your own glue records (private name servers) but you can ask staff for assistance with any of your domains and we will be able to add them on your behalf.

The abilty to add your own Glue Records (rather than needing to contact staffs) is feedback that we’ve shared with our dev team so I will add your upvote. For now though you can just let us know the records you wish to add and we’re happy to help.

To keep the discussion on this post focused on general transfer questions, please start a new request for any specific domain changes you need and we will take a look outside of this thread. /https://wordpress.com/help/

    Thanks!

  • Hi @bellagist If your domain is with Squarespace you can transfer it here for free, the offer still stand for the timebeing.

However, to use the domain as the address for your WordPress.com site does require an upgrade to our Personal Plan (or higher.)

The personal plan will allow you to change your wordpress.com site address to any other address you wish, as well as turn off the advertising we show on free sites to help cover our costs.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

I transferred my domain, however, none of the pages were transferred and now I am building from zero; and the site does not give me any answers to fix the ERROR that the site is creating

    Thank you very much

    for nothing
