Transferring help needed :)

I’m looking to transfer my wordpress.com blog (I’ve bought my domain) and go to a self-hosting site (HostGator). I want to make sure I don’t lose anything. How do I go doing about this?

I would advise not doing anything until wp can help you. I am converting to bluehost, and started to fiddle with things this afternoon and now I can’t find my blog online, get a 404. I took the plunge and bought the guided transfer package and praying that the ‘happiness engineers’ can fit me in asap!

I thought of having their ‘happiness engineers’ help me too but then Host Gator said they could do it too. I just get so worried. If I lost my blog, I would be devastated. I wish I had known this three years ago, that there was only so much we could do on wordpress.com

I am sure they will fix everything, but I am sweating bullets right now. =) Bluehost said the same thing, but for some reason I am more comfortable letting wp mess with wp stuff. Plus, it said that they will continue to assist for up to 2 weeks after the transfer. Good luck to you!

You can do this yourself or you can buy the Guided Transfer upgrade, which is $99 if I recall correctly.
