Transferring hosting of a wordpress site to new wordpress account

I had a professional agency build and host my site, but my hosting ends today and I need to transfer it to my own new hosting.

They built it on wordpress, and they gave me the site archive files. I’m just not sure how to set up a new account since it is already a wordpress account to get it off their hosting.

  • Hi there,

If you would like to move your site to our WordPress.com mangaged hosting you can use our migration plugin to automate the process, and it will move an exact copy of your site: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wpcom-migration/

Once our plugin is installed on your site, all it takes is a few clicks, and we will move an exact copy of your site over to our managed hosting. From there your site will have a private “staging address” you can use to confirm the migration is correct, and will give you thue opportunity to make any other changes you wish while your legacy site stays online at it’s current URL.

When you are ready to “launch” the migrated site, you can transfer your domain to us, which will allow us to seamlessly replace the legacy site with the new WordPress.com site so no traffic is lost.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
