Transferring hosts
-
I signed up for the wrong host and need to transfer hosts in order to use a custom theme that I am already having made. I went to do the transfer myself and came across “you can’t transfer until 60 days after purchase” Can I transfer before having owned the site for 60 days? I really would like to use the theme that I am paying a lot of money for. I didn’t know that some hosts don’t support custom themes. I would really like to get my blog up and running so if I could transfer the site ASAP that would be ideal. Thank you.

Hi there,
Please note, ICANN (the governing body over domains) places a 60 day lock on all new domain registrations and renewals to prevent fraud. This is a requirement placed on all domain registrars, so there is no way to waive it.
However, you can still point your domain to another host by updating the nameservers. You can point the domain you registered at WordPress.com to another server (hosting service), with these steps:
You’ll need to obtain the name server values from your current host. You should be able to find them on their support documentation, or contact them and ask for the information. (Name servers may be referred as “nameservers” or “NS records” instead.)
I hope this helps – let me know if you have any more questions!
