Transferring my blog to WordPress.com
-
Hello. I would like to move my very new self hosted blog to wordpress.com but I have some concerns that I would like to get help with.
1. Since I already registered my domain with another registrar, I know I have the option of mapping my existing domain to the wordpress.com site but what will happen when the domain comes up for renewal in one years time? I would like to have the domain with wordpress.com after the year is up. Is that possible or will I have to keep renewing with the old registrar and continue to pay an additional domain mapping fee to host with wordpress.com. How would that work?
Will I lose all my content / subscribers at that time?2. If I go with the domain upgrade to map at this time, will I lose the few subscribers, comment, content on the blog that I have at this time?
Any help would be appreciated. Thank You.

Hi there!
So unfortunately while we register new domains here at WordPress.com, we’re not able to accept incoming transfers of existing domain names. Therefore, we recommend that you keep the name registered at your current registrar. You can use the domain for your site here at WordPress.com by mapping the domain, as explained here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
So this means that you will have to make sure your domain is renewed with your registrar and your domain mapping is renewed yearly with us. As long as both registration and mapping are renewed you will not have any issues on the domain front and your site will not go down.
However, please note that if your registration is not renewed at your registrar your mapping with us will not work. In this case, your content will not be gone, it will still be available, but at the free domain – the one with .wordpress.com at the end of it.
2. If I go with the domain upgrade to map at this time, will I lose the few subscribers, comment, content on the blog that I have at this time?
If you Export your self-hosted site and Import it into you WordPress.com site you will not lost your posts/pages. As for your subscribers, let me know and I can transfer those for you.
Cheers!

Thank you so much for your help. I think I will get a new domain on wordpress.com instead of mapping it and cancel hosting with them so I only have to renew with wordpress.com every year. Even with the new domain on wordpress.com (as opposed to a mapped domain) I should again be able to export and import right?
Also, would you still be able to help me with transferring the subscribers? Thanks very much you for your help. -
Hello once again. I bought a new domain on wordpress.com finally :)
I would really appreciate your help in transferring all subscribers (email and blog) and other useful data to the new domain. I would like to transfer from preciousrhymes.com to preciousrhymes.net
Once that is done successfully I can cancel hosting with the other hosting service and bring the other domain down. Thank you so much. -
Hi there,
Even with the new domain on wordpress.com (as opposed to a mapped domain) I should again be able to export and import right?
Yes! You can :)
I would really appreciate your help in transferring all subscribers (email and blog) and other useful data to the new domain.
This has been done!
Cheers!
