Transferring my current website to wordpress

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello, I’m trying to figure out if I’m able to transfer my Wix website as it is into wordpress? I’ve heard wordpress is more customizable, but it seems like a lot of work to recreate all my site again and bring over my blogs and everything

    I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

  • Hi there,

You can transfer your content (posts, pages and media files) from Wix to WordPress.com using the Wix Importer.

Your website theme, however, cannot be imported from Wix as Wix themes are not compatible with WordPress. But you can use any of the themes available on your WordPress dashboard (Appearance > Themes).

    I hope this helps.

  • Hi @hughtoarcunitedcom

The answer that @nuk4040 gave was spot on, I just wanted to add that a lot of the difficulty in moving over from Wix is that our platforms are quite different. If I can ask, what prompted your move, functionality that you could not find there but we offer here?

Also if your Wix site is still up, feel free to share the URL and we can take a look, and possibly suggest a theme or course of action to set up something similar here on WordPress.com.

    Thanks for the additional info!

    Homepage

That is the site, any advice would be appreciated.

As for why, it’s what you said. There are tools that I know you have and I can implement here that wasn’t available on wix. The capability to embed and edit from my end is quote important especially regarding my blogs/transcriptions from my podcast. SEO was another reason.

  • Thank’s for the link!

So it looks like the bulk of content on your site is articles/transcripts and podcasts, with a few static pages.

The design looks relatively minimal, so I wouldn’t recommend any particular theme; you can choose which style you like best from here:

    https://wordpress.com/themes/.

If you don’t see any you’re 100% happy with, don’t worry, you can choose the one with colors/style you like and then create custom pages using blocks. We also have a library of different page layouts where you only need to replace the demo content with yours:

    https://wordpress.com/support/page-layouts/.

As for your posts and podcasts, you could use two separate categories for those and then create pages with Blog Post blocks. Each page would display just one category of posts:
