Transferring my domain AND my mail.

  • Unknown's avatar

First off, I’d like to know if there is a phone number I could call for support. It really is faster and way more effective in terms of solving problems.
Secondly, I’d like to ask about the possibility of transferring not only the domain I currently have with 1&1 to WordPress, but to do the same with my mail. Also, I’d like to know the steps I’d have to take to keep all the mails while transferring it, and what the price would be to have those services (domain, hosting and mail).
    Thankyou.

  • Hi Marta –

    Thanks for writing to us.

All of the support for WordPress.com comes through online channels. Once you get that domain set up, you will then have access to our live chat and private email support channels (versus the public support forum here). That support comes from https://wordpress.com/help/contact/

There are 2 options to bring that domain over to use on WordPress.com.

    1. Map it: https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/
With this option the domain stays registered at the current provider. You’ll renew the domain with them each year. The domain registrar will help you edit the DNS records to point (or map) the domain to WordPress.com.

    2. Transfer it: https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/
This option actually transfers the registration of the domain over to WordPress.com. Each year the domain is renewed through us.

Both options require that you have a plan added to your account. These plans include the price for mapping or transfer. Each year when you renew your plan you renew the domain credit too.

    Options are here: https://wordpress.com/pricing/

If you want to share more details about the site we can help you with selecting the best plan.

For now, go ahead and get started with your free WordPress.com site. The domain can get connected later, once you decide it’s a good fit :) These materials are going to be helpful with getting started.

The email is not an issue either. You can leave it set up as is, and then once you bring the domain over to WordPress.com you’ll configure the email too.

I’ve just dropped a lot of information on you, so give it a read and then come back to me here with follow up questions.
