transferring my sites to my own hosting

  • Unknown's avatar

I am trying to transfer my files to my own hosting… to export them. The files have not loaded in the same way as they look on my site here. Why is that?

Also, I want to stop pointing my own domains at my sites so that until they get properly transferred to my own hosting, they can still be seen here. How do I do that please?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there!

Could you explain how the content looks different on your self-hosted site? Screenshots may be helpful as well, if you’d upload some to your media library.

There are some differences to expect. When you export from WordPress.com and import into a self-hosted site, you’re really just pulling all the posts’ and pages’ content (like titles, body text, tags, and categories) and inserting it into a new blog. You’ll still need to edit the look and feel of your site with themes, widgets, and other customizations.

Additionally, the export from your WordPress.com site doesn’t pull images. If you’d like the images in your self-hosted media library, you’ll need to re-upload them manually.

Since you’ve purchased your domain registration elsewhere, and are using domain mapping for WordPress.com, I can remove the domain mappings for you. Could you please confirm which domains you no longer wish to point to your WordPress.com site?

    Best,

Hello Alex, thank you for your prompt reply.

    The domains that I mapped to wordpress that I would like moved for now are http://www.tarotarcana.info , and http://www.tarotarcana.eu and http://www.tarotarcana.org . Also, http://www.lovehonourandrespect.net , http://www.lovehonourandrespect.org , http://www.lovehonourandrespect.me . Also, http://www.financiallyfreefemale.com , .net and .biz .

I shouldn’t have even mapped them because I am moving my hosting now….. just a couple of weeks after mapping them. Silly me. :)

    Hi there!

I’m happy to remove those mapping upgrades and also refunded the purchases. Domain registrations can only be refunded within 48 hours, but we offer refunds for domain mapping up to 30 days. :)

However, I only see that you own these domain mappings:

The other four domains were purchased by you, but are now owned by another WordPress account. I can’t remove and refund those domain mappings unless it’s requested by the user who now owns them. If you control that user, could you please login there and request to have the domain mappings removed and refunded? Please also reference this number:

    #563316-f

For all the tarotarcana domains, now all you need to do is make sure the name servers with your domain registrar point to your hosting service, not WordPress.com. :)

Let me know if you have more questions!

    Best,

    -Alex G.

That’s me. I just separated them so that people who comment on my blog only see the one blog at a time. I discovered that when someone hovers over the gravatar, all the blogs come up and I didn’t want that.

I will go to those accounts and request the refunds.

    Hi Madeline,

Thanks for doing all that. I’ve cleared the mappings and performed the refunds. You should see each of those appear in your bank statements in about a week.

Let me know if you have more questions about the transition to self-hosted. :)

    Best,

    -Alex G.
