Transferring my wordpress.org website to wordpress.com

  • Unknown's avatar

I exported the .org website content to an xml file and imported the same into wordpress.com as per the instructions in the support documentation. Now, where do I see my imported content in wordpress.com? I got a confirmation that the xml file is imported successfully in wordpress.com but am unable to see the content. Kindly guide. Thank you.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi,

To import the content of another WordPress blog into your current site, go to My Site → Settings and select Import from the Site Tools section at the bottom.

Click Start Import next to the WordPress importer.

For the import to work, you’ll need a valid .xml file. Drag your .xml file into the box, or click the box to browse to the file on your computer. This includes the content of a self-hosted WordPress blog.

Once the file has finished processing the uploaded file, click the Start Import button. You will be asked to reassign the authors of the imported items to an existing user on the new site before starting the import process. If you are importing content from a site that has multiple authors, it’s a good idea to create those users’ profiles in your new site first. This will streamline the import process further.

You can read more info about coming from a self hosted site to .com site here:

    Hope this helps :)

  • Hi castledreemz –

Can you confirm which site you imported the file on to? I’m asking because when I go to the site in your original post I only see 2 posts listed.
