Transferring my wordpress site from .com to .org

  • Unknown's avatar

I started my blog a few months ago, and somehow purchased a hosting plan through bluehos,t but for some reason acquired a wordpress.com site and domain instead of the wordpress.org that I desired. I’m wanting to transfer my .com website to the .org to have the freedom of customization etc. I’ve sadly paid for bluehost but have been using a wordpress.com website.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

Both the domain genuinelymarisa.com and your site are hosted by Bluehost. I don’t see any WordPress.com site under the account you’re using to post to this thread. If you’re referring to another website please let me know its address so I can further assist you.

    Hi,

I was under the understanding that I do have a wordpress.com site, as this is what I use to edit and post through the dashboard. (www.genuinelymarisa.com)

  • You have only connected your site to WordPress.com via the Jetpack plugin. This allows you manage it more effectively and use other cool features such as Stats, advanced security, etc.

If you prefer to manage your site through the classic WordPress Dashboard you can do so by going to this address:

If you have any other questions, just let me know and I’ll be happy to help.

Thank you so much for your reply

I usually manage my wordpress website through the classic dashboard that you linked above.

Im just more so wondering and wanting to confirm that I own my website and all of its data, that I can add free, paid, and custom plugins, apps and themes, and lastly have the ability to potentially monetize my site.

    Marisa

  • Hi Marisa,

You completely own your website and you can add any plugin and any theme that you like as well as monetize it in any way that you want.
