Transferring One Domain To Another

  • Unknown's avatar

I currently two domains under my just host account. I need to change the name to a different host that we just received. I have the unlocked password but how do I change the name of the site and put the new one in? We have it under szilagcastmedia and want to switch it to the domain I was required to change to. Please, any information would be helpful.

    Hi szilagcastmedia,

Your account hasn’t purchased any custom domains through WordPress.com but szilagcastmedia.com is being used for your Jetpack connected site. Is this the domain you are referring to?

Correct. There is a domain called Detroit Sports Media.com that has given us their password to have that domain name and change our current name, szliagcastmedia.com to the Sports Media one. I build Szligcastmedia for that name.

  • “Detroit Sports Media.com” is not a domain, as domain names cannot contain spaces.

If you mean detroitsportsmedia.com, that domain is neither registered nor hosted with us, but is controlled by GoDaddy.com

If you want to change the domain on the szliagcastmedia.com site, you’ll need to ask yoyur hosting provider for the process to do that in their system. You can find the general instructions for changing the address on a self-hosted WordPress site here:

    https://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL

To change the address linked to your WordPress.com account, you need to first change the site’s address at GoDaddy. Then you need to log into the site’s admin dashboard, disconnect Jetpack, and reconnect Jetpack. We are also not able to help with that, so if you have more questions about that process, I recommend you contact Jetpack support directly, here:

Thank you for the assistance. I understood a domain does not create spaces, it was just a habit when I am typing a sentence, I should have just linked the site instead. I will contact our server, which is JustHost.

  • it was just a habit when I am typing a sentence

It’s a habit that complicates helping you a bit, though, as it’s hard to know exactly what domain you’re speaking of :)

I hope JustHost is able to help you sort this out!
