Transferring one word press domain to another wordpress site

I have a wordpress site with you and would like to try reconfiguring it in test mode with another theme (without breaking the original) Is there a way to clone what I have and then when Im happy with the design transfer the domain name ver to the new design?

Hi there, You can preview your existing site in a new theme in the Customizer before going live. However, you will not be able to save changes in between without them going live on your site. https://en.support.wordpress.com/customizer/
Another possible way to experiment more fully is to export your current content from your site and then import it into a test site that is marked Private (only you can see it). That will give you a chance to test out various settings without anyone else seeing them.
In the end, however, you wouldn’t be able to transfer the domain name over to the new design. None the less, it will allow you to make informed changes in the Customizer on your original site with some confidence.

That’s excellent advice Jennifer.
My site is looking tired and wanted to give it a facelift plus show some collaborators without breaking or taking the original offline. templates have moved on somewhat since I first did the site….so a simple “try the theme” isn’t necessarily a seamless option.
Although what you’ve suggested will mean some replication of work….its worth doing.
