Transferring out of Google Workspace

    My domain has been mapped to WP for nearly 15 years and I started using Google Apps (as it was then) for emails from my domain. To be honest, I can’t remember exactly how I did this as it was so long ago. I just know that it works!

    Now that Google are wanting to charge me per user, I’m looking at alternatives, one of which is Professional Email. If I set this up through WP, will this immediately stop emails going to Google Workspace? Will I need to do it for all the users with separate email addresses on the domain? If so, would I get charged per user for Professional Email or is it a flat fee?

    I’m also going to need to find a way to preserve all the email archives currently on Google Workspace!

    If I set this up through WP, will this immediately stop emails going to Google Workspace?

    As soon as you activate Professional Email, that will update the MX records for the domain from Google’s to ours, and emails will start routing to your Professional Email inbox instead. DNS updates aren’t instant, though, so there might be a few hours where some emails get routed to Google, and some to us, while the changes are propagating across the web.

    Will I need to do it for all the users with separate email addresses on the domain? If so, would I get charged per user for Professional Email or is it a flat fee?

    If you want multiple mailboxes for multiple addresses, those are billed per mailbox per year. You can add as many mailboxes as you want when you make the initial purchase, so all the addresses will be set up at the same time.

    Once you’ve set up the mailboxes, you can share the passwords with the other users. They’ll log in directly (no WordPress.com account required), and should then each be able to set their own password.
