Transferring ownership of wordpress site
-
So we have a unfortunate situation on our hands. The man who helped us start our churches website passed away. We were able to gain admin access to the website so we can maintain it but the account for the website is still in his name and email. Is there away we can get that changed and get the ownership in someone’s else’s email?

I’m sorry for your loss. Please see: Deceased user https://en.support.wordpress.com/deceased-user/

I’ll echo TimeTheif’s sentiments that I’m sorry for your loss. In addition to the information regarding regaining access for an account owned by a deceased user, since it sounds like you have access to the original owner’s WordPress.com account this guide on transferring the site to another WordPress.com account may also be helpful:

Okay, thank you both of you for the info. My other concern now after looking at things is the cost I’m pretty sure he is on a payment plan. Seeing how there is no adds and the domain is a www. .com url.
How would I handle switching the payment info so we don’t lose it that way? -
Hi cogaudioteam,
Seeing how there is no adds and the domain is a www. .com url.
Would you be able to send a link to the site you need help with? I will check which upgrades have been purchased and look at the best way forward.
Thanks.

I think this account is the actual owner account of the domain.
When logged into it I can remove the website if I wanted. -
After continuing research I found that wordpress.com is a package deal with the ipage.com subscription that the website is being hosted through.
I am in contact with Microsoft trying to gain access to the hotmail address that he used to set all this up. -
Hi there,
After continuing research I found that wordpress.com is a package deal with the ipage.com subscription
That is not entirely correct. WordPress.com and iPage has nothing at all to do with each other.
What you have with iPage is hosting for the open source WordPress software found on WordPress.ORG, something completely separate from WordPress.com.
And your site at http://www.thechurchofgodofcanby.com/ is indeed using that software. You are able to manage that site via your WordPress.com account, apluscomputerworks, thanks to the Jetpack plugin you have installed on that site which connects it to that account, but otherwise we have no control over that site or domain, and no payments regarding that site has ever been made on our system.
The domain, thechurchofgodofcanby.com, was registered at domain.com in June 2016, and is currently hosted by iPage, so to regain control over that domain and site you need to contact those two companies respectively.
I hope that helps clarify things for you.
