Transferring self-hosted blog back to WordPress.com/JetPack ?

  • Unknown's avatar

We transferred from WordPress to a self-hosted blog to use several Plug-ins and, while those work great the response time with this host has been horrible. They say the delay is caused by JetPack but since that’s essential for tracking Likes, Comments, etc. we don’t want to deactivate it so, we’re considering moving back to WordPress. If we transfer the blog back, can all the followers, likes and comments transfer back too? Thanks for any help you can offer.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there. Have you considered moving to a different host? The WordPress.org support pages have some information on different hosting providers that work well with the WordPress software: http://wordpress.org/hosting/

You can import your content (including comments) back into WordPress.com same way you exported it to WordPress.org in the first place. You’ll just need a free WordPress.com URL. You can register a new one if you deleted the old one. Instructions here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-from-wordpress-org

I don’t know about moving your followers, likes and stats back. I’ll tag this for a staff follow-up. Please be patient while waiting for them or another Volunteer who has the answer to respond.

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and the link. I’m a patient guy so will gladly wait for someone else’s thoughts on whether the followers, likes, etc if I move to another host and continue to use JetPack. Kind regards.

Hi there! All of your comments will transfer over with your export. I can transfer your followers over as well. However, your Likes will not transfer.

Let me know if you have any more questions!

That’s great to know. I’ll export/import the site, reload the plug-ins and let you know when I could use your help in making the transfer. Thanks so much Shawna

Shawna, I have moved the blog to a new host, transferred all the pages and posts, and activated Jetpack. So I would now be grateful if you could please transfer over the follower/subscribers. Many many thanks. ~Rick

Great! Which WordPress.com site did you want them transferred from?

  • Unknown's avatar

Oh SO SORRY Shawna. The URL of the blog is TheGreatAmericanLandscape.com. It had its early beginnings on WordPress.com I moved it to a private hosting company and added Jetpack so one of those great “happiness engineer” could help me move the subscribers. Now I’ve just moved it (with the same URL) to a new host with larger capacity but when after I installed and connected Jetpack I thought the subscribers would migrate but since they didn’t I’d be grateful if you could give them a shove into their new home. I believe there was roughly 500 or so. If you need any other info. please let me know. And, many thanks for all you are doing to help. ~Rick

Oh great! Sorry I misunderstood where you were transferring from. :)

I’ve just transferred your stats and followers. Let me know if there’s anything else I can do!
