transferring sites

I need help figuring out what to do.

I currently update a website for a non-profit organization. Someone else set it up. The domain is registered through Dreamhost and it’s being hosted by Azure App Service. But yet also somehow connected to wordpress – that’s how I’ve been updating the website is through wordpress.

Both the dreamhost and azure accounts are this other person’s personal accounts. He’s no longer wanting to help with things so it’s up to me now.

I’m not the most tech savvy person. Is there a way to have the domain registration and hosting all done by wordpress? How would I go about transferring the website over?

    Hi,

Yes, of course – you can have both the website and domain transferred over to WordPress.com. However, please note that in case you wish to use the same custom plugins and theme here, you will need to upgrade your WordPress.com-hosted site to at least the Business plan or above, otherwise, you would only be able to import your basic site content (posts, pages, categories and tags).

You can follow the instructions here for transferring the website: https://wordpress.com/support/import/import-an-entire-wordpress-site/#import-from-self-hosted-word-press

And you can find a tutorial here for transferring your domain subscription over (if it has been registered more than 60 days ago, otherwise you can only connect it to WordPress.com until the 60 days domain lock period ends): https://wordpress.com/support/domains/incoming-domain-transfer/

Please let us know if you may get stuck anywhere!
