Transferring subscribers from wordpress.com to wordpress.org

  • Unknown's avatar

All the forum topics and support sites tell me if I want my followers to come with my I have to contact the wordpress.com support staff directly with my .wordpress.com URL and new URL for them to transfer my subscribers. But I can’t find where to do that. I keep going in circles. Can I not send a support form to the staff if I don’t have the upgraded version? How can I contact them?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Provided you have installed and activated the JetPack plugin http://jetpack.me on your WordPress.org install, and you post the relevant URL(s) into a forum thread, Staff will do the transfer of both subscribers and stats for you. http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/moving-your-subscribers/#wordpress-com-to-self-hosted-site Do that now please as I have tagged this thread for their attention.

My wordpress.com URL is healthmylifestyle.wordpress.com and my new wordpress.org URL healthmylifestyle.com. Thanks timethief! JetPack is activated so this was my last step.

Cool. All you need now is patience.

  • Howdy,

I’m happy to transfer the users who have subscribed to your blog either by email or via the WordPress.com Reader.

Please keep in mind that while your email subscribers will continue to receive email notifications of new posts as before, WordPress.com followers will only see new posts in the Reader. They will not receive email updates unless they subscribe to receive those on your new site. You might want to post a notice on your old site about your upcoming move to keep your readers informed.

Can you please reply back if you have any questions or let me know you would like to go ahead and move your subscribers?

    Thanks!

Sorry I didn’t see this sooner. If you could transfer them by the Reader it would be much appreciated! Thanks!

  • Hi again!

I’ve migrated your subscribers over, so you should be all set. Congrats on the new site! I shouldn’t have read your site though; the food is too tempting hours before lunch. And thanks for the reminder to buy new running shoes ;-)

If you have any questions or need anything else, please do let me know. Cheers!

Thank you so much! And you’re welcome, new running shoes make all the difference! =)

Just one last request: Is there a way to move the site stats too? Or do I have to start over with the new site?

    Thanks!

  • In some cases, we can cleanly merge the stats. In checking out your site, they wouldn’t cleanly merge. Each post has a post-id number associated with it. When it matches between your old and new site, it can merge cleanly. When they don’t, the stats can look funny.

I can merge them for you, if you’re okay with the caveat: While the general stats (visitors per day, per week, etc) will be correct, anything specific to a post may be off. For example, any stats from a post that was brought over won’t be combined between sites or, worse, combined with the wrong posts. (If a post on your old site had an ID of 123 and a different post on your new site had it too… they would be all merged together, if you look at the historical info for that post).

So, if you’re just looking at the big picture, let’s do it. If you’re diving deep, maybe not. We can un-merge them if you realize it isn’t working for ya too.

    Cheers!

I’m fine with looking at the big picture! I think it will only affect a few posts since I haven’t posted too much since moving so I’m ok with some stats being off. Thanks, you’re the best!

  • You’re all set! You can see the combined stats in the Jetpack menu on your new site, or on the Stats page of WordPress.com ( https://wordpress.com//my-stats/?blog=60713260&unit=1 ).

On the “Year” view, you can see what I mean by individual posts looking off: https://wordpress.com/my-stats/?blog=60713260&view=postviews&summarize&unit=1&numdays=365

For views on your new site, the right title will load and everything will be dandy. :-)

Let me know if you need anything else!
