Hello..I need to transfer my content from WordPress.org to WordPress.com..I already have content in WordPress.com..If I transfer will I have duplicates then? also..do I need to transfer my domain too? Is there anyone at WordPress who can help me or do this for me? thanks.

  • Hi there,

I already have content in WordPress.com..If I transfer will I have duplicates then?

Is the content currently on your WordPress.com site duplicated on the content you are wanting to move over from WordPress.org? If so, I would empty your WordPress.com site and do a fresh import to prevent and potential issues.

do I need to transfer my domain too?

So, if you have a domain you want to use at WordPress.com that you have hosted elsewhere, you do indeed have the option to either keep the domain where it is currently hosted and map it or transfer the domain to WordPress.com.

First, you transfer the domain without having to purchase a paid plan. However, using a domain at WordPress.com without a plan prevents you from making the domain primary. When someone types in your custom domain, it will automatically forward to your WordPress.com subdomain:

    Domains

Otherwise, you can purchase a WordPress.com plan and set your domain as the primary domain.

The biggest factors to consider would be who you want to host your domain, how much your domain host currently costs compared to the domain only or domain + plans packages we offer here, and whether or not you want to host your domain and site at the same place.

If you transfer the domain to WordPress.com, we’ll manage the domain. Assuming you want the domain primary, you’ll pay for the mapping and the plan here (domain is included within the plan price for the first year).

But, if you keep the domain with your current host and map the domain to WordPress.com, your current host will continue to manage the domain and you’ll still need to pay them for hosting your domain.

Hope that helps. Let us know if you have any other questions.

  • Hi there,

With the Personal plan, you’ll have access to our email support. If you want access to our live chat support you’ll need to select the Premium, Business, or eCommerce plan.

  • Hi there,

You have probably used the presales chat; you’ll get there directly from the cart when purchasing a plan.

    Hello..

I am back again with more questions..I am going to get the personal plan from WordPress.com and export from WordPress.org and import the files. If I have issues with the transfers will someone here be able to guide me and help me thru it?
Also..since I am transferring the domain, will I still be able to use the WordPress.org site until it expires? I have it for another month..

thanks for your patience and help

With a paid plan you will have access to email support from your account help page:

    https://wordpress.com/help/contact

If you do opt to purchase a yearly Premium or above plan, that will unlock live chat support for you. The extra cost might be worth it since you found our live chat so helpful previously. :)

Also..since I am transferring the domain, will I still be able to use the WordPress.org site until it expires? I have it for another month…

No. You can only use your domain on one site at a time. If you transfer the domain to WordPress.com and use it on your WordPress.com site, the site you have currently with that domain would not be accessible. Your site will still exist, just not with your domain name. You would need to reach out to your current hosting provider to see how you would access that site after you transfer the domain.

What I would recommend is that you get your site set up here before switching your domain over.

When you sign up for a new site, we give you a free subdomain (*.wordpress.com) that you can use to start building your new site.

Then, when you’ve imported your content and the site is ready to go, then switch the domain over. I would recommend setting the domain nameservers to WordPress.com first, wait for the changes to propagate, then proceed with the domain transfer.

    I hope that helps!

Thanks very much for all the info..
I would also like to know the easiest way to print my entire blog if possible…as I would like to send to a friend to read who has no internet
I would like to save it as a PDF also..

    thanks!

  • The best option here for that is to just print each post (and, your computer’s print dialogue should also offer to save as a PDF).

That’s not a great option, I know, but it’s also the only option here.

If you don’t mind getting a third-party involved, you might be interested in either https://www.blogbooker.com or https://www.fastpencil.com though, as they can actually turn your blog into a real physical book, which might be a perfect fit for this.
